Opening Range Breakout (ORB) — range, triggers & paper automation
Sample the opening window from live ticks, lock ORH and ORL, then trade breakouts with measurable R-multiple targets and configurable re-entries.
What is ORB?
Opening Range Breakout measures the high and low during your chosen opening window (default 09:15–09:30 IST). That gives you ORH (opening range high), ORL (opening range low), and R = ORH − ORL.
After the window ends, the range locks. A buy triggers when price crosses above ORH; a sell when price crosses below ORL. Targets scale as multiples of R. This is a separate module from Camarilla — different logic, alerts, and reports.
Daily automation timeline (IST)
Step 1 — Build the opening range
During your window, every tick updates the session high and low. At range_to the range locks.
Step 2a — Buy breakout (ORH)
Cross above ORH → entry. Stop at ORL. Targets above ORH.
Step 2b — Sell breakdown (ORL)
Cross below ORL → short. Stop at ORH. Targets below ORL.
Step 3 — Targets = multiples of R
If R = ORH − ORL = 10 points, buy targets are ORH+10, ORH+20, … ORH+50. Sell targets mirror below ORL.
Step 4 — Re-entries
Set max buy/sell trades per day (1–10). After exit, price must cross the level again — not just stay above/below.
Implemented rules
Buy
Price crosses above ORH → long MIS paper entry · SL at ORL · targets at ORH + n×R (n = 1…5)
Sell
Price crosses below ORL → short MIS paper entry · SL at ORH · targets at ORL − n×R
Re-entry
After exit, price must cross ORH/ORL again. Max buy/sell trades per day (1–10) per symbol.
Exits
Stop-loss, TGT1–TGT5 partials, or points trailing — same exit modes as Camarilla but range-based.
Separate ORB Telegram alerts
ORB messages use a 🟦 Opening Range Breakout (ORB) header — distinct from Camarilla 🎯 alerts. You get:
- → Entry alerts with ORH/ORL/R, targets, exit mode
- → Partial exit alerts with remaining qty
- → Trade closed summary with exit legs & P&L
- → Signal-only alerts when auto-trade is off
Trade limits & safety
- ✓ Max BUY and max SELL trades per symbol per day (your preset, 1–10 each).
- ✓ No new entry while an open/partial trade exists on that side.
- ✓ Re-entry requires a fresh cross of ORH (buy) or ORL (sell) after the prior trade closed.
- ✓ Opening range is per instrument + window — different symbols can use different range times.
How it gives results
- → Live board shows ORH, ORL, R, LTP, and BUY/SELL/HOLD call per symbol.
- → Separate ORB Telegram alerts (🟦 header) — not mixed with Camarilla (🎯).
- → Trade reports tab: timeline, exit legs, win rate, net P&L per ORB paper trade.
- → Works on vendor OAuth tick Redis — no chart API required.
In the app
- Live board — ORH, ORL, R, calls, trade counts
- Trade reports — win rate, P&L, timeline, exit legs
- Presets — window, qty, exit mode, max re-entries
Paper trading only — virtual MIS orders. Not investment advice.
